Three Little Limericks

Travelled back from Cape Town to London over the weekend and as usual got delayed on the tarmac at Heathrow, so getting bored and with just a pen handy, I scribbled down some limericks. Why limericks you ask?

I have no idea.

No.1 – Crying baby

There was a crying baby on the plane,
The poor parents tried everything in vain,
Then along came the trolley,
The kid got a dolly,
And the parents decided, next time, the train!

No.2 – Distraught girl

There was a young girl who missed her flight,
Distraught, she cried with all her might,
A young man took pity,
(The young girl was very pretty)
And they got married on the Isle of Wight!

No.3 – Our poor world

Humans are destroying the earth,
Continually asking it to prove its worth,
They have pillaged and destroyed,
Leaving Earth an empty void,
Like a virus from the beginning of birth

The last one is quite bleak I admit, but there you go.

MyFonts interview: Cyrus Highsmith

Cyrus Highsmith is a senior designer at Boston’s Font Bureau. With his contemporary body of work, he has established himself as one of the truly original new voices in American type design. He’s somewhat of a designers’ designer — many of his peers hold him in awe for the sheer audacity of his letterforms. Jean-François Porchez, himself one of the most respected type designers in France, called him “the W.A. Dwiggins of today”. Meet Cyrus Highsmith, a natural draftsman.
